Seth Griffith helps at Wallaceburg lacrosse camp

Some local youth got quite the surprise this morning at the opening day of lacrosse camp in Wallaceburg.

Trading his skates for sneakers, Boston Bruins forward Seth Griffith came out to volunteer his time in his hometown.

Griffith told the Sydenham Current that Jamie Knight, the organizer of the camp, texted him looking for some help.

“Shim (Knight) was my coach growing up for minor lacrosse and he helped me out a lot,” Griffith said.

“I like to give back to the kids because I know when older kids come out, knowing that they play for the Red Devils, I think it pushes them a little more. Some new kids are here that need some help so I like to just help out a little bit.”

While it could have went either way when he was younger, Griffith said his hockey skills have surpassed his lacrosse talent over the years.

“I haven’t held a stick in a while,” he said.

“My roommate and I, we have mini sticks at our house, so we will fool around with that but it’s a little different having the big stick out now, but it is still a lot of fun. I miss playing and you wish you could play both, but you have to pick one.”

Knight said a total of 41 youth signed up for the week-long camp, which is being held at Glen Mickle Park in Wallaceburg.
